Responsibilities:

The Assistant General Counsel, in a capacity similar to that of an associate attorney in a private law firm, provides legal services to clients at various levels in the corporation. Services may include legal and factual investigation, research and analysis, counseling, litigation, litigation management or assistance, transactional documentation and negotiation, and regulatory advice.

Provide legal advice to the Company for all employment-related litigation matters in the U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico and USVI, including single plaintiff and collective and class action lawsuits, mediations, and arbitrations involving discrimination, retaliation, wage and hour, wrongful termination, employment-related tort, restrictive covenants/unfair competition/trade secrets, employment benefits, public accommodations under Title III, whistleblower, and any other employment-related claims. Investigate, develop strategy, respond to, represent the Company at fact-finding conferences, settlement conferences/mediations and other proceedings, and where appropriate negotiate settlements regarding charges of discrimination and other complaints filed with federal, state and local EEO agencies, OSHA, NLRB and federal and state departments of labor. Select, negotiate, and manage outside counsel representation and fee arrangements. Manage a multi-million dollar legal budget. Supervise outside counsel in defending employment litigation matters, which includes developing litigation strategy, reviewing and revising pleadings, documents, depositions, discovery requests and responses, attending witness interviews, depositions, mediations, hearings and trials, reviewing and approving outside counsel bills, fees and budgets, evaluating and making recommendations regarding settlement and settlement amount. Investigate and respond to pre-litigation, employment-related claims and demands made by current or former employees or customers. Review and respond to third-party subpoenas.

Qualifications:

JD Degree from an ABA accredited law school preferred

Seven to Ten years experience and/or training

This position requires the following skills: excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to analyze complex facts and data to provide sound legal advice and recommendations on litigation strategy; extensive experience in litigation of federal and state single plaintiff and collective and class action employment claims; extensive experience handling administrative agency charges, including fact-finding conferences, settlement conferences/mediations and hearings; ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment; ability to work under pressure of heavy caseload and tight deadlines, without impact to quality of work product; ability to use outside counsel efficiently and effectively; and ability to negotiate

Other Information:
  • Admitted to practice law in Florida or qualify as authorized house counsel
  • Minimum 7years experience in related field
  • Proficient in both verbal and written communications
  • Analytical skills
