Job Summary
Manages and leads the Alternative Business Structure (ABS). Assures that a culture of high quality legal work at a competitive cost is maintained while providing exceptional service to clients and the affiliated Company. This job is a Manager: Responsible for setting work objectives and goals for employees and managing their performance. Typically involved in compensation decisions. Employees have a formal reporting relationship to this job. This job works under Broad Oversight: Receives guidance in terms of broad goals and overall objectives and establishes the methods to attain them. Generally the incumbent is in charge of an area of work and typically formulates policy for this area, but may have final authority for approving policy.

Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities
Promotes a culture of high quality and performance. Manages human resources matters, including but not limited to staffing, performance management, compensation, professional development and employee engagement. Accountable for the success of the ABS (insert name) initiatives, such as trial appetite, resolution management and improvement in all lines of business. Provides and arranges for effective on-boarding of lawyers and staff; training and mentoring. Participates fully in the development of all the employees in the ABS (insert name) through strategic assignments and ongoing evaluation of workflow and productivity. Handles a caseload as determined in consultation with the Vice President, Claim Europe. Represents Insureds and the affiliated Company by employing methods and strategies commensurate with the provision of high quality legal and customer services. Complies with all elements of Staff Counsel Program Case Management Guidelines and ensures the same from all lawyers and staff members. Ensures that all lawyers and staff adhere to the Solicitors Regulatory Authority (SRA) Code of Conduct, high ethical standards professionalism and integrity. Creates a structure for the review of new files and assignment to the lawyer with the appropriate skill level. Partners with the Claim Department on long-term goals and strategies, case handling, oversight and ad hoc matters as they arise. Develops professional relationships with all business partners across the affiliated Company, including Claim Offices, SIU, Risk Control, non-Staff Counsel Claim legal partners, Human Resources, Underwriting, Marketing and Agents, CAEs and Actuarial. Leverages these relationships to deliver the most value to clients. Accountable for developing and continually improving the metrics for own office, i.e., referral rates, expenses, indemnity, total cost in all lines of business, etc. Analyses and utilises management information to drive performance and execute upon value proposition strategies. Completes and submits all required reports, time records, expense reimbursements requests and other materials appropriate to performance of job duties in a timely manner. Complies with budgetary limitations, productivity standards, and all other administrative aspects of the position. Serves as part of the Staff Counsel Leadership team by providing meaningful and thoughtful input to program-wide initiatives and by chairing committees on selected projects. Participates in File Reviews as a member of the Staff Counsel National Review Team. Handles national projects, attends management meetings and contributes to Staff Counsel Program initiatives, as requested by Regional Counsel or Head of Staff Counsel. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
University degree. Fully qualified solicitor or barrister in England and Wales holding a valid and in-force practicing certificate issued by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA). Successful legal practice experience. Management experience required. Proven technical competence and mastery of professional indemnity and financial risks.
