We are seeking a Program Counselor.

As Program Counselor, you will focus on developing and implementing comprehensive treatment plans for a case load of residents. Accordingly, you will assess and identify issues for each resident and create clear objectives and goals. You will also track and document resident progress in case reports while working to meet all required internal and external standards and policies.

1. Implement, coordinate, and conduct a substance abuse counseling program for the chemically dependent inmate.
2. Responsible for caseload counseling of assigned inmates, including individual and group counseling.
3. Responsible for maintenance of case records in accordance with appropriate department, state, and federal standards.  Clinical documentation shall include, but is not limited to; case notes, Individual Service Plans, Relapse Prevention Plans, Continuum of Care Plans, Discharge Summaries.
4. Participate in case diagnostic and technical staff conferences concerning the chemically dependent inmate as well as participating in inmate classification hearings.
5. Ensure secure storage of participants’ records.
6. Prepare and submit all reports, as requested, to the Program Director or Clinical Supervisor.
7. Participate in staff training pertinent to the Therapeutic Community and substance abuse/addiction.
8. Present the CRA Educational or other didactic components of the program.
9. Assist with the development and enforcement of site policies and procedures.
10. Review all transition related material (Individual Service Plan, Relapse Prevention Plan, Continuum of Care Plan, Discharge Summary) prior to inmates’ release.
11. Conduct payroll reporting activities.
12. Develop weekly schedules for staff and volunteers.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in any of the Social Sciences or related fields. A minimum of two years professional experience working in a counseling or chemical addiction field, preferably within a therapeutic community chemical dependency treatment or correctional setting; or
  • A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in an unrelated area of study. A minimum of three years professional experience working in a counseling or chemical addiction field, preferably within a therapeutic community chemical dependency treatment or correctional setting; or
  • A Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in any of the Social Sciences or related fields. A minimum of three years professional experience working in a counseling or chemical addiction field, preferably within a therapeutic community chemical dependency treatment or correctional setting; or
  • A Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in an unrelated area of study. A minimum of two years professional experience working in a counseling or chemical addiction field, preferably within a therapeutic community chemical dependency treatment or correctional setting; or
  • A Ph.D. from an accredited college or university in mental health counseling and/or chemical addiction counseling; or
  • A Ph.D. from an accredited college or university in any unrelated area of study and at least one year of mental health counseling and/or chemical addiction counseling; or
  • Certified Addictions Professional (CAP), Certified Criminal Justice Addictions Professional (CCJAP), Certified Associate Addictions Professional 1 or 2 (CAAP), Certified Criminal Justice Associate Addictions Professional 1 or 2 (CCJAAP); or
  • An Associate’s Degree from an accredited academic institution. A minimum of four years professional experience working in a counseling or chemical addiction field, preferably within a therapeutic community chemical dependency treatment or correctional setting.
  • The Substance Abuse Counselor must meet the security requirements for admission to the institution/facility.
  • Knowledge of and compliance with applicable ethical and professional standards of conduct.
