Position Summary

The incumbent in this position is a first line manager who participates in and facilitates the management of the operational and personnel activities of the department.  They are responsible for assisting with the management of the department’s daily operation by coordinating the clinical aspects of Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and/or Speech/Language Pathology services depending on their professional discipline, supervising clinical therapy assistants,  and providing clinical services and education.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide direct therapy evaluations and re-evaluations, including assessment of prior and current level of functioning, setting appropriate goals and making appropriate discharge recommendations in accordance with standards of practice; provide direct treatments according to standards of practice, including patient and family education, progression of treatment plan and implementation of appropriate therapeutic interventions; report on patient progress through appropriate written documentation including evaluation forms, progress notes, education forms and interdisciplinary rounds forms; collaborate with physicians, patients, family and other members of health care team relative to patient treatment and progress as well as other affiliated agencies with regard to effective discharge planning; and complete home safety assessments of patient's home setting and in turn make recommendations to increase safety through use of equipment, supplies, or social services.
  • Supervise physical therapy assistants; precept and instruct PT interns and other students as indicated. Encourage and assist in the professional development of supervised staff through education, competency programs, and transfer of skills. Assure that all supervised therapists provide services to patients according to the written plan of care. Assist supervised team members in developing visit schedules to include supervision visits with the required frequency of supervision mandated by the State licensing boards and the Organization.  Ensure all therapy services provided by team are patient/family centered and meet the standards of practice established by the Home Care Department. Complete necessary supervision communication and documentation timely and adhere to supervision policies set forth by the department.
  • Assist in the management of the day-to-day operations of Home Care services as delegated by the Clinical Therapy Manager; responsible for ensuring that individual therapists meet productivity standards on a monthly basis and overseeing the coordination of patient caseloads for individual therapists
  • Assist in and perform personnel management functions for the designated team including, but not limited to; interviewing, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and evaluating employees as delegated by or with the Clinical Therapy Manager or Director’s approval
  • Plan, provide and evaluate orientation, training and continuing education programs or other opportunities for learning as delegated for their designated area, department or other Organization staff; ensure staff conformity with Organization and regulatory agency conformity; and serve as mentor to staff and students in the department
  • Ability to meet physical and non-physical demands as outlined in the job description is an essential function of the job

Qualifications

Education

  • Four-year Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited Physical Therapy program required
  • Physical Therapy, Master's degree from an accredited PT program preferred

 

Licenses & Certifications

  • License to practice Physical Therapy in the state of Texas required
  • Current CPR/BLS Certification required
  • Current Texas Driver's License and automobile insurance required

Experience

  • Minimum 3-5 years of related experience required
  • Three to four years of previous Physical Therapy required
  • One year of supervisory experience required
  • Four to five years of experience preferred

Physical Demands

  • Very Heavy - Exerting over 100 lbs. occasionally, 60-100 lbs. frequently, or up to 20-50 lbs. constantly
